Steepy Took a Tour on Nippon Made Workshop in Japan
Nippon Made is a product line launched by Onituska Tiger in 2008.

Nippon Made is a product line launched by Onituska Tiger in 2008. The brand proudly showcases the marvels of Japanese craftsmanship, and displays the quality of “Made in Japan”. It is not only a product line, but also a demonstration of the extraordinary hand-made quality that the brand is proud of.

Nippon Made's shoes are made by ASICS's only production site in Japan, the one located in Sakaiminato, Tottori. Afterwards, some of the products will be shipped to the Osaka workshop for a final touch.

In the workshop located in Osaka which has a long historical standing, this traditional and complex Sagawa craftwork has been inherited that is still used on shoe-making till today. This time-consuming and labor-intensive process made a pair of Nippon Made Sneakers exceptionally outstanding.

The Nippon Made collection is known for its low production volume and exquisite craftsmanship. You can see a batch of sneakers right on the table of the workshop. Only a few dozen pairs are produced, so even the numeric labels on the insole of each pair are different.

We saw sneakers hanging on a rope, then figured out it’s the natural drying process.

When Nippon Made first opened, its target group was the thirty-to-forty-year-old hype beasts. However, they later found out the sneakers are also welcomed by a lot of younger consumers from Japan and abroad. Nowadays, Nippon Made also provide the customization service which you can choose the color and texture of each part of the sneaker, or to have text on it (Japanese or English). The normal customized sneakers take about six weeks to produce.

Nippon Made also has a variety of products such as wallets, t-shirts, jeans, down jackets, etc. These products also adhere to the Japanese manufacturing tradition and the Japanese “normcore” style.
